E.W. [sic*] BREWER LOSES LIFE IN TERRIFIC ELECTRICAL STORM [Special to The Times-Dispatch] SUFFOLK, VA. - July 1 - In a terrific electrical storm, which hit Dendron, Va., this afternoon about 2:30 o’clock, Mrs. E.W. Brewer, a young matron of that community, was struck by a bolt of lightning and instantly killed. Mrs. Brewer was standing in the pantry of her home when the bolt hit the house. She is survived by her husband, two small children and several brothers and sisters, Joseph Whitmore of Suffolk; Everett Whitmore and Miss Iris Whitmore, Mrs. Slade and Mrs. J.A. Conway, all of Dendron, are her relatives. No other member of the family was hurt when lightning struck the house, and the young woman herself had only one small scar upon her head. ****************************************************************************** MARY EUGENIA WHITMORE BREWER LIGHTNING KILLS WOMAN Claremont, Va., July 3 - Mrs. E.W. Brewer, of Dendron, Surry County, was struck by lightning and instantly killed Saturday afternoon in the electrical storm which raged in this section of the state. No other member of the family was hurt when the bolt struck her home. Mrs. Brewer was standing in the pantry of her home when she was killed. Besides her husband two small children, she is survived by several sisters and brothers. Miss Iris Whitmore, Mrs. Slade and Mrs. J.A. Conway of Dendron, and Joseph Whitmore, of Suffolk, are her relatives. Her husband remarried; he is buried in Rosewood Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
