All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ THOMAS MALCOLM COFER Thomas Malcolm Cofer, 93, of near Dendron, died Friday, Jan. 10, at a Petersburg nursing home after a long illness. He was the son of A. Junius and Devilla Cofer. He was the oldest member of Carsley Methodist Church and had been its superintendent for 37 years. He was a retired Surry County farmer and had served on the Surry County School Board for 28 years. The husband of the late Alice Holdsworth Cofer, he is survived by five sons; A. Clyde Cofer; T. Linwood Cofer, R. Roy Cofer and Wilson Cofer, all of Dendron Community, and Raymond F. Cofer of Surry; two daughters: Mrs. Annie C. Rogers of Newport News, and Mrs. Margaret C. Holdsworth of Disputanta; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, Sunday Jan. 12, at 2 p.m. Burial was in Waverly Cemetery with the Rev. Ashton Archer and the Rev. R.B. Moore officiating. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
