OBIE L. COCKES

  Obie L. Cockes, 82, of 231 Elm St., died this morning after a month’s 
illness.

  Mr. Cockes, was born in Surry County, a son of the late Robert Albert and 
Martha Ellingsworth Cockes, but had made his home in Petersburg for the last 
31 years.

  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sally Scarborough Cockes; two daughter; 
Mrs. Gilbert G. Collett and Mrs. Ernest L. Lockett Jr.; one son, J. Wilton 
Cockes, all of Petersburg; two grandsons and two granddaughters, and several 
nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Purviance Chapel of 
J.T. Morriss with Rev. Stacey Davis pastor of Elm Street Baptist Church and 
the Rev. Robert Vaughan pastor of Second Presbyterian Church, officiating.

  Burial will be in Blandford Cemetery.
