Cockes, of 231 Elm St., died at 8:30 a.m. today in Petersburg General Hospital, after a week’s illness. She was born in Surry County, a daughter of the late Walter and Mildred Gwaltney Scarborough, and had made her home in Petersburg for 33 years. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Gilbert Collett and Mrs. Ernest Lockett; a son, J. Wilton Cockes, all of Petersburg; a sister, Mrs. Susie S. Ames, of Richmond; a half-sister, three half-brothers, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were incomplete this morning and will be announced later by J.T.
