Edmond Wayne Castle, Sr. "Ed", age 78, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, July 11, 2021, at John Randolph Hospital after an unexpected illness. Ed was born on August 28, 1942, in Hopewell at John Randolph Hospital and grew up in the tri cities area. Ed loved the Lord and was strong in his faith in Christ and has always been a steadfast attendee of church, which is also where he met his wife June. He was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church in Wakefield where he served as trustee, treasurer, and enthusiastic choir member. Ed had a great love of music and was blessed to be a part of several music groups and directed many church choirs. Music groups included The Blackwater Boys, The Dominion Singers, The Solid Rock Quartet, The Rocky Hock Quartet, and the choirs of every church he was a member of. Ed was a devoted member of the Tuesday Night Prayer group that consisted of friends, family, and loving brothers and sisters in Christ. He was a member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club and has supported his community over the years in many capacities. Ed loved and was loved by his family, whom he cherished, supported, and encouraged. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, June Cooke Castle of Waverly, VA; his four children and their spouses Bonita Jo Castle Meyers and Robert of Wakefield; Edmond Wayne Castle, Jr. and Marti of Waverly; Robert Otis Castle and Michelle of Spring Grove; and Melissa Castle Ewald and Ron of Williamsburg. He is survived by nine awesome grandchildren Alyssa, Mindy, Ron, Sarah Elizabeth, Wayne, Sarah Mae, Sam, Samantha, and Jordan; 18 great grandchildren and a host of friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church with the Rev. Cliff Fritzinger and Pastor Richard Speirs officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 13, 2021, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to Waverly Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583, Waverly, VA 23890 or Rocky Hock United Methodist Church. Her parents, John Richard & Theresa Genopha "Bessie" (EDMONDS) EDMONDS are buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. His paternal grandparents, Samuel Jackson Sr. & "Nannie" Nancy L. (ALMOND) CASTLE, are buried in Kenbridge Heights Cemetery, Kenbridge, Lunenburg Co.
