All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ Rites This Afternoon For Surry Resident SMITHFIELD - Funeral services for Joseph (Joe) Franklin Councill, 56, who died in a Richmond hospital Friday night after a long illness, will be conducted today at 3 p.m. in the Old Brick Church cemetery, Bacon's Castle. Councill was a native of Surry County and a member of the First Assembly of God Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosa Appel Councill of Surry; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Lee Goodrich, and a son, James Franklin Councill of Surry; four sisters, Mrs. Nannie C. Holleman, and Mrs. Francis C. Rowan of Bacon's Castle, Mrs. Gretie B. Lyttle of Ivor and Mrs. Gladys C. Fleming of Baltimore, Md.; three brothers, Herbert O. Councill of Newport News, Raleigh O. Councill of Bacon's Castle and John R. Councill of Emporia.
