Rites This Afternoon For Surry Resident 

  SMITHFIELD - Funeral services for Joseph (Joe) Franklin Councill, 56, 
who died in a Richmond hospital Friday night after a long illness, will be 
conducted today at 3 p.m. in the Old Brick Church cemetery, Bacon's Castle. 

  Councill was a native of Surry County and a member of the First Assembly 
of God Church. 

  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Rosa Appel Councill of Surry; one daughter, 
Mrs. Mary Lee Goodrich, and a son, James Franklin Councill of Surry; four 
sisters, Mrs. Nannie C. Holleman, and Mrs. Francis C. Rowan of Bacon's Castle, 
Mrs. Gretie B. Lyttle of Ivor and Mrs. Gladys C. Fleming of Baltimore, Md.; 
three brothers, Herbert O. Councill of Newport News, Raleigh O. Councill of 
Bacon's Castle and John R. Councill of Emporia. 

  Funeral services will be conducted by the Reverend Horace Jones and the 
procession will leave the Jones Funeral Home at 2:15 p.m.
