  Rev. James W. Connelly. 

   (Special to The Times-Dispatch.) 

  WAKEFIELD, VA., Sept. 3 - Rev. James W. Connelly died at the home of his 
daughter, near this place, Wednesday.  He was well advanced in years, and 
death came as the result of broken down and worn out conditions.  He joined 
the Virginia Conference in 1860, and for twenty-nine years served in its 
itinerant ranks.  In November, 1889, he applied for a location, which was 
granted.  After his location he made a good support and achieved considerable 
success in the practice of law.  He was an excellent preacher and finely, 
endowed with oratorical abilities. 

  While he preached but little in his latter years, yet he maintained his 
religious faith to the end.

b. ca. 1836, VA, d. 31 Aug 1904, at daughter's home, near Wakefield,

He was the son of Ira & Mary J. CONNELLY.  His family appeared in the 1850 
   Census in the northern division of Brunswick Co., & in 1860 in St. Andrew's 
   P'sh, Brunswick Co. 

He was the postmaster of Burntville, 12 Jul 1859 - 22 Jan 1861. 

He may be identical with the James W. CONNELLY who served as a private in 
   Co. A, 33rd VA Infantry, CSA. 

His family appeared in the 1880 Census in Guilford Dist., Surry Co. 

His daughter Minnie (CONNELLY; Mrs. Winfield D.) GOODRICH appeared in the 
   1900 Census in Blackwater Dist., Surry Co. - OMF #162. 

His wife Carrie M. CONNELLY (ca. 1842 - 1884) & their son Ira (1868 - 1909) 
   are buried in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg.
