DONALDSON VIRGINIA BEACH - Camille Bailey Donaldson, 61, a resident of Virginia Beach, died Saturday, September 13, 2008 in a local hospital. Born February 10, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Roger J. and Margaret Rosser Bailey. Camille graduated from Radford College in 1969. She was also a graduate of Averett University with degrees in Early Childhood Education. She taught for several years in the Virginia Beach public school system, until health issues forced her to retire. Camille is survived by her husband of 35 years, James William Donaldson; a son, James Roger Donaldson of Medina, OH; and a brother Charles Bailey of Wakefield. A talented Christian woman, Camille genuinely and enthusiastically lived her life according to the principles of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. In her early life, she was a very active member of the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church (UMC) in Wakefield, where she and her mother taught Vacation Bible School (VBS) for many years. As an affiliated member of Courthouse Community UMC in Virginia Beach, she has participated in a wide variety of activities. She was the first president of the United Methodist Women; taught VBS for several years; was active in many Bible study groups; and started the first church library. She was a talented artist and used her love of arts and crafts to start the Crafts Bizarre at Courthouse Community UMC. Camille was currently the Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors of Virginia Beach TRIAD. She was also instrumental in starting the Neighborhood Watch in her community. In all of these activities and accomplishments, Camille exhibited the humility of a servant who never sought nor expected recognition for her efforts. A memorial service was held at 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 6, 2008 at Courthouse Community UMC in Virginia Beach, with Rev. Fred Brockhausen and Rev. Fran Cooper presiding. A reception for Camille's family and friends followed in the church fellowship hall. Burial will be private in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery, Wakefield. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield is assisting the family with arrangements. ****************************************************************************** ROCKY HOCK CHURCH BULLETIN - REMEMBERING: CAMILLE BAILEY DONALDSON - 1947 - 2008 Camille was a lifelong member of Rocky Hock Church. As a child, she grew up attending Rocky Hock and later as a teenager helped her mother with crafts and taught at Vacation Bible School. She was in the first graduating class of Tidewater Academy, attended and graduated from Radford College and Averett University. She taught in the Virginia Beach public schools until her health forced her to retire. Camille was a talented artist and loved working with all types of arts and crafts. She enjoyed working with clay and making pottery and would often share these talents with her church family. Camille continued her projects throughout her most recent hospital stay. In fact, the needlepoint project pictured below was one she worked on and finished within her final week. Camille has always maintained an interest in genealogy and local history and was a knowledgeable source for several of the Rocky Hock Church bulletin articles. She attended church at Courthouse Community United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach, and she was very active within this church, helping in Bible School, Bible studies, etc. Camille was married to Jim Donaldson for 35 years and is survived by Jim and their son, Jimmy, and her brother, Charles Bailey.
