DREW WAKEFIELD, VA., July 21 - Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae Drew, widow of George R. Drew, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in Rocky Hock Church, near Wakefield. ****************************************************************************** "THE HISTORY OF OUR CHURCH PEWS - ROCKY HOCK UNITED METHODIST CHURCH" GIVEN IN MEMORY OF MR. AND MRS. GEORGE R. DREW George Rogers Drew was born 1860 and died 1916. He was born at Elm Shade Farm (Harry Lee Goodrich, Jr. and Marjorie Goodrich resided here later) in Little Surry. George was the third of six children born to Ben Drew and his wife. In 1886 Reverend Boggs married George and Ida Mae Holleman (1863-1925) at Rocky Hock Church. They only had one child, Clinton. The Drews were large landowners for around the Civil War to the turn of the century. Much of their land holdings were from Highway 460 to the edge of what we call "Little Surry." After George died, Ida Mae built a house in Wakefield and moved there. This house still stands on Main Street next to the 7-Eleven store. At her death, she bequeathed a sum of money to Rocky Hock Church. C.M. Ellis, Sr. gave the pew in the church in memory of Mr. and Mrs. George R. Drew. Both George and Ida Mae's mother, Mrs. A.P. Holleman (1839-1900), are buried in the same square as her daughter. Her grave is one of the earliest in the cemetery. No pictures have been located. Thanks to John Nicholson and Clara Rogers for the information. Ida Mae (HOLLEMAN; Mrs. George R.)
