ALONZA JOSEPH EDWARDS 

ALONZA EDWARDS, 70, OF SMITHFIELD DIES SUDDENLY 

  Alonza Joseph Edwards, 70, son of the late Ben K. and Henrietta M. Edwards, 
died very suddenly at his home Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m.

  He is survived by four brothers, Octavious B., John H., Tiberious E., Jesse 
D. Edwards, and one sister, Mrs. Kate Edwards Jones of Smithfield, and a 
number of nieces and nephews.

  Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon at Bethany M.E. Church by 
the Pastor, Rev. E.W. Rawlings, assisted by Dr. J. Paul Tyler, District 
Superintendent, Portsmouth-Newport News District.  Burial was in the church 
cemetery.

  Active pallbearers were Compton Edwards; Eugene Jones, Jack Jones; Franklin 
Edwards, William Edwards, Page Joyner, Nonnie Holleman, Raney Stallings, 
nephews of the deceased.

  Honorary pallbearers were the member of Bethany Men's Bible Class.
