GAY Mrs. Minnie Lee Gay, 84, who made her home with her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lucille Gay, 1345 23rd St., Newport News, died at 1:45 p.m. Sunday at the home of her son, Dr. R. Ashton Gay, 5640 Shenandoah Ave., Norfolk, after an illness of one year. Mrs. Gay, who was a native of Surry County, Va., had been a resident of Newport News for the past 65 years. She was the widow of Edward Cary Gay. She was a member of the Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, the W.C.T.U., the Woman's Society of Christian Service. Survivors include one son, Dr. R. Ashton Gay, Norfolk, one granddaughter, Mrs. James Drosselmeier, Newport News, and one grandson, John A. Gay, Norfolk, several nieces and nephews. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. ****************************************************************************** MINNIE LEE GAY Funeral services for Mrs. Minnie Lee Gay, 84, of 1345 23rd St., Newport News, who died Sunday in Norfolk after a year's illness, will be held at 1 this afternoon at Peninsula Funeral Home. The Rev. C.T. Topping, pastor of Chestnut Avenue Methodist Church, will conduct the rites, assisted by the Rev. Edgar A. Potts, D.D., pastor of Epworth Methodist Church, Norfolk. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Methodist Church Cemetery in Surry County, where Mrs. Gay was a native. Active pallbearers will be Dr. J.O. Belcher, J.R. Holton, George Gatling, Edgar Dunston, Enos Hargrave and Elton Booth.
