B.H. GOODRICH Our community was greatly shocked and grieved on Wednesday, November 20, by news of the sudden death of Mrs. Sybelia Goodrich. While very young she was converted and joined the Methodist church, and was a true, earnest and consistent Christian, one who loved her Savior and her church. She was a friend to all, and with the spirit of her Savior gladly ministered to the needs of others. She was a true and devoted wife and a loving mother. She loved her home and made it a place of comfort and contentment for those under her care. She freely sacrificed self for those around her. She leaves a husband, two daughters, six sons, and aged father and a large number of relatives and friends to mourn their loss; but their loss is her gain, and they can look forward to a glad reunion some day in the better land where parting is no more. She was 55 years of age. The remains were laid to rest in the Rocky Hock cemetery. My loved ones are gathered yonder, My friends, too, are passing away; And soon we shall join their bright number, And dwell in eternity's day. They're safe now in glory with Jesus, Their trails and battles are past; They overcome sin and the tempter, They've reached that fair city at last. Ruth A. Rives ****************************************************************************** IN HONOR OF: IN MEMORY OF BENJAMIN HAWKINS AND ANSEBELLA BAILEY GOODRICH ABOUT PEOPLE NAMES IN THE STAINED GLASS WINDOWS OF ROCKY HOCK METHODIST CHURCH Benjamin and Ansebella got married in 1876, and they lived on the farm between Larry Rogers and Charles Boykin where Mary and Bena Rogers lived at one time. Ansebella, also spelled Ansebelia, was married at age 14, and she and Benjamin had 11 children, 9 of which lived to adulthood. Five of the nine children still have direct ties to Rocky Hock: the father of Ernest Goodrich - "Mr. Benny," the father of B.H. Goodrich - Garland, the mother of Helen Boykin - "Miss Annie," the grandmother of Larry Rogers - Ida Mae, and the father of Ozzie Goodrich - Charles Henry. Another child was Gurney Goodrich who invented the Goodrich peanut digger. When Ansebella died in 1912, Benjamin moved in with her parents, Joseph and Darthula Bailey, to take care of them until their death. He remained in the house until he died. Today Laura Anne Goodrich lives in this house. Both Benjamin and Ansebella are buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. Thanks to Laura Anne Goodrich for the pictures and the information.
