Born in Surry County, he was the son of the late John Waverly Goodrich and Mabel Joyner Goodrich, and stepson of the late Violet Goodrich. Carlton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II, Normandy Campaign, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Margaret Copen Goodrich. Mr. Goodrich is also survived by sisters, Margaret Doss of Newsoms, Charlotte Carden of Grandy, N.C., Agnes Goodrich, and Mabel Johnson, both of Wakefield; brother, Herbert Marshall Goodrich of Mt. Juliet, TN; half-brother, Ronnie Goodrich of Wakefield; stepsister, Esther Wood of Holland; and step- brothers, Robert Butler of Largo, FL., Thomas Butler of Portsmouth, and Fred Butler of Waverly; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Church of God, 207 Kilby Avenue, Suffolk, VA, on Mar. 12, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. James R. Hughes, pastor of the Church of God, officiating. Interment was at 2 p.m. in Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wakefield. The family received friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, was in charge arrangements.
