Born on Feb. 8, 1912, she was a native of Southampton County and the daughter of the late Emmett Munford and Ruth Bradshaw Munford. She was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, Wakefield, and owned and operated Goodrich Nursing Home in Surry County for 20 years. She was a caregiver for her family and community all her life, and a devoted and hard-working mother to her large family and many friends. She was the widow of Robert Henry Butler and John W. Goodrich. She is survived by a daughter, Esther B. Wood, and husband, Glenn, of Holland, Va.; four sons, Tom Butler, and wife, Lillian, of Chesapeake, Fred Butler, and wife, Margaret of Waverly, Ronnie Goodrich, and wife, Alice of Wakefield and Bob Butler of Florida; six stepchildren, Carleton Goodrich, and wife, Margaret, of Suffolk, Herbert Goodrich, and wife, Yvonne, of Tenn., Charlotte Carden of Grandy, N.C., Aggie Goodrich of Wakefield, Margaret Doss of Newsoms and Mabel Johnson of Wakefield; a sister, Lafayette Munford Dowdy of Radford; a brother, John Munford of Black Creek; and 17 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Rose Logan and sister of the late Alvin Munford. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. Ed Sunday-Winters. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery.
