Mrs. Edwin F. Huber, the child's [mother,] who was taking a nap, left [him playing] in the yard, when she [awoke?] several hours later to find [smoke?] rising in the vicinity of the [pig]pen. When she reached the scene she found the child laying face down with a box of matches beside him and his clothes burned off. He had been dead about an hour. Robert Edward HUBER, son of Edwin F. & Essie (FAISON) HUBER, Surry Co. native, fatally burned 28 Feb 1938, at home, Dendron, age 6, interred in Union Christian Church Cemetery*, Surry Co., 1 Mar 1938, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 18, No. 49, Mar. 3, 1938, p. 3, col. 2 *His parents are buried there also. His Find a Grave Memorial, #76086815, includes a photo of his marker, which bears the epitaph "Fond Memories of Thee."
