Bessie Mae Wright Howell

  SPRING GROVE - Mrs. Bessie Mae Wright Howell died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002, at 
the Riverside Convalescent Center in Smithfield.  She was the widow of Walter 
R. Howell. 

  A native of Surry County, she was a member of Bibleway Baptist Church where 
she served as Mother of the Church. 

  She is survived by a son, Walter E. Howell of Surry; two grandsons, one 
great-granddaughter; three brothers, Albert Wright of Richmond, Warren Wright 
of Philadelphia and Junes Wright of Surry; two sisters, Nancy Claiborne of 
Williamsburg and Martha Guide of Stockton, Calif.; and a special daughter, 
Maureen Longhorne. 

  A funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at Bibleway Baptist 
Church with Pastor Howard Daniels officiating.  Burial will be in Mt. Ray 
Cemetery.  Viewing will begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday at Poole's Funeral Home 
and a wake from 7-8 p.m. 

  Mrs. Howell will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service on 
Thursday. 

  Poole's Funeral Home in Surry is handling the arrangements.
