Surviving him are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Moorings Holt and a sister, Mrs. Anne Mercer, of Norfolk. The body was taken to the funeral home of Roberts & Johnson and left the funeral home Sunday afternoon at 1 o'clock for Oak Grove Church in Surry, where funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Burial was in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers were G.C. Berryman, Ruby and Clifton Logan, Henry Holt, Raymond Gwaltney and Paul Chapel. Richard Walter HOLT, farmer, b. 9 Sep 1865, Bacon's Castle, d. 15 Dec 1939, at home, age 74, interred in Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery*, 16 Dec 1939, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 20, No. 38, Dec. 21, 1939, p. 1, col. 7 Additional information: While his D.Cert. #28299 (Cobham #20) gives his father as Francis Parrish HOLT {Walter's son's name}, his father was Richard P. HOLT. Richard 1m. 1846 Elizabeth M.O. WHITE, dt/o Ed. WHITE, in Surry Co.; the record of his 2m. has not been found (Aug 2017). His m.rec. (12 Jan 1898, Surry Co.) gives his mother as Fanny; his sister Annie Lee's (20 Jan 1898, Norfolk) gives her mother as Fanny L. *A photo of Walter & Lilly's is posted with his Find a Grave Memorial, #101965751.
