Hunnicutt, 62, for many years prominent among the grocers of Newport News died at 3:10 Saturday afternoon at the Riverside Hospital. Mr. Hunnicutt had been ill seven weeks. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at his residence. The Rev. Dr. Floyd W. Putney, pastor of the First Baptist Church was in charge. Interment was in Peninsula Memorial Park. Nephews of Mr. Hunnicutt served as active pallbearers - Raymond Hunnicutt, Lucian West, Bernard Hunnicutt, Charles G. Rowell, Lee Hunnicutt and Richard Rowell. Friends of the family acted as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Hunnicutt was born in 1873 at Bacon's Castle, Surry County. He went to Newport News 39 years ago and established a grocery business which he continued to operate until his death. Never seeking the limelight Mr. Hunnicutt nevertheless was active during his entire residence there in both civic and church projects. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and of its Business Men's Bible Class. He also was a member of the Elks' Lodge. Surviving him are his wife, who formerly was Miss Myra Maynard of Smithfield; one son, Dr. Thomas N. Hunnicutt, Jr.; a daughter, Mrs. Orvin C. Jones, organist at the First Baptist Church; one grandson, Thomas N. Hunnicutt, III; and two sisters, Mrs. E.E. West and Mrs. C.E. Rowell of Surry County.
