THOMAS JAMES HARRIS 

THOS. J. HARRIS 

  Funeral services for Thomas James Harris, 77, who died Friday, September 22, 
were held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Purviance Funeral Chapel with burial in 
Rocky Hock Church Cemetery.  Rev. L.P. Bland and Rev. T.L. Richardson, 
officiated. 

  Pallbearers were Allie B. Presson, Harris C. Presson, Lyle H. Pond, R.M. 
Pond, Paul W. Rogers and Roger J. Bailey. 

  Formerly of Trenton, N.J., he was a native of Surry County, retired civil 
engineer for the American and U.S. Steel companies and a graduate of V.P.I. 
class of 1906. 

  He was a son of James Thomas and Alice Edwards Harris, husband of the late 
Nellie Craft Harris and a member of Rocky Hock Methodist Church. 

  Surviving are one nephew, Arthur L. Presson of Wakefield; four nieces, 
Virginia P. Darden of Norfolk; Mrs. Louise Swink of Blacksburg; Mrs. Helen 
Richardson of Richmond and Mrs. Myrtle F. Atkins of Portsmouth.

b. 23 Jul 1884, Isle of Wight Co., d. 22 Sep 1961, Suffolk, 
interred in Rocky Hock Methodist Church Cemetery (Plot 37*), Surry Co., 
   24 Sep 1961,

His parents are buried in the same plot.

His wife is buried in Fair View Cemetery, Roanoke. 

His father was a Confederate veteran, having served as a private in the 
   Surry Light Artillery.
