Hargrave, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2002, at his home in Wakefield, Va. Born in Surry County on Nov. 26, 1914, he was a son of the late Willie P. Hargrave and Estelle Kate Harvell Hargrave. Mr. Hargrave was the husband of Ruby Stewart Hargrave, was a retired farmer and was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church. He is also survived by one daughter, Barbara H. Atkins of Wakefield; one son, Douglas Willard Hargrave of South Carolina; six grandchildren, Douglas Atkins, Keith Atkins, Kevin Hargrave, Crystal Hargrave, Barbara Jo Hargrave and Jessica Hargrave; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Earl W. Hargrave; two sisters, Annie H. Fuller and Hylah H. Clarke; and a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, is in charge of arrangements.
