All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ EDGAR JONES STAUNTON, VA. - Edgar Jones, 99, widower of Marion (Hendry) Jones, of Baldwin Park #219, Staunton, died Thursday (September 21, 2006) at Augusta Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born May 19, 1907 in Dendron, Surry County, Virginia, a son of the late Edgar and Roxie (Steele*) Jones. Mr. Jones attended public schools, Randolph Macon College and Massey Business College. He was employed in sales promotion for Electric and Gas utilities with VPS, Vepco, ad Utilities Commission in Elizabeth City, NC and in developing sales with Westinghouse Electric in South Florida from 1936-1938. After a short bread pursing personal interests in New York, he returned to Florida with Westinghouse in 1940, where he met and married his wife Marion, mother of his son, Edgar "Ed" Jones III of Staunton. While waiting for enlistment, he entered a partnership working with the U.S. Army (Civil Aeronautics) installing night lighting systems at the Army field in Tampa. The firm continued work on similar installations through the war. Selling interest in this company, he moved the family to Virginia in 1950 where he worked in industrial sales and his wife worked with V.S.D.B. installing and teaching the rhythm approach to deaf training. Mrs. Jones died in 1986. Mr. Jones was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church. In addition to his wife and parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters in infancy; a half-brother, David Steele; and a half-sister, Elsie Steele Cunningham. In addition to his son, family members include a niece, Beatrice Buchanan of Brunswick, Maine. It was Mr. Jones’ wish that his body be given to science.
