ROBERT RYLAND JAMES 

  SMITHFIELD - Robert Ryland James, 85, died Thursday at the home of his 
daughter, Mrs. Oscar Edwards.  Mr. James was a lifelong resident of Surry 
County.  Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Wilma J. Edwards, of Smithfield; 
three sons, W.E. James, of Dendron; George R. James, of Richmond, and T.C. 
James, of Newport News; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and a 
half brothers, J.R. James.  Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. 
Friday at Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church.
