Frank had a love of farming from an early age. In his teens, he raised vegetables in all the vacant lots in Murfreesboro. He would sell his produce to restaurants and stores as far away as Franklin, Virginia. Upon graduating from NC State in 1958, he returned to Surry to farm for his grandfather, C.T. Hamlin. During his years of farming, he won several county and state peanut championships for producing the most pounds of peanuts per acre. Frank's farming career and life were shortening due to illness and his early death from leukemia in 1975. In 1960 he married Mabel Goodrich, and they and their three sons lived in the home where Mabel resides today. Frank was a member of the Surry Methodist Church and served as charge secretary for the Surry Charge. After his marriage, he moved his membership to Rocky Hock Church where he served as an assistant secretary for the Sunday school. He is buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. His wife gave the steeple atop Rocky Hock Methodist Church in memory of Frank (pictured on the front of this bulletin). Thanks to Mabel G. Johnson for this information and the picture.
