WAKEFIELD - Alvin Howard Lowe Sr., 86, of Wakefield, died Saturday in Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. He was a lifelong resident [sic*] and farmer of Surry County. He was a member, senior steward and trustee of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church. He was a member of Farmer's Hunt Club. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virgie Bailey Lowe; a daughter, Mrs. J.C. Whitmore Jr., and two sons, G. Franklin Lowe and Vernon V. Lowe, all of Wakefield; 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield, by the Rev. J.M. Tongue, the Rev. L.P. Bland and the Rev. Robert L. Consolvo. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery. The family request expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Ivor Rescue Squad or the memorial fund of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church.
