All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/va/vafiles.htm ************************************************ GEORGE FRANKLIN LOWE George Franklin Lowe, Sr., of Wakefield went to be with his beloved Lord on February 4, 2010 at Southside Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. Born April 17, 1919 in Surry County, he was the widower of Ruby West Lowe. He is survived by one son, G. Franklin Lowe, Jr., of Richmond, Va. and his wife Mildred B. McCarthy-Lowe, two grandchildren, Lisa L. Martz and husband Tim and Reynold C. Lowe and wife Kimberly. He is survived by seven great- grandchildren, Chelsea, Cody, Joey, and Linsea Martz; Deaton, Lainey and Kinley Lowe; four step-grandchildren, Ronnie W. McCarthy and wife, Susan, Robert W. McCarthy, Jr. and wife, Diane, Gerald C. McCarthy, Tracy M. Mulroy and husband, Tim; a sister, Gaynell L. Whitmore of Wakefield and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Howard Lowe, Sr.; his mother, Virgie Bailey Lowe; brothers Alvin H. Lowe, Jr. and Vernon V. Lowe; a sister, Violet L. Smith. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 8, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. in Rocky Hock UMC, Wakefield. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Purviance Chapel of J.T. Morris & Son Funeral Home, Wakefield, and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rocky Hock UMC, Attn: Ed Castle, 5210 Carsley Rd., Waverly, VA 23890. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the medical staff and volunteers at the Waverly Healthcare Center. ****************************************************************************** ROCKY HOCK CHURCH BULLETIN - GEORGE FRANKLIN LOWE, SR. Franklin Lowe joined Rocky Hock Church as a child, and attended the church much of his life. He served on the Administrative Board and as treasurer of his Sunday school class for many years. He moved from his childhood home at Cedar Point Farm in the Rocky Hock community to Wakefield to work for Ernest Pittman at a car and tractor dealership. At the outbreak of World War II, Franklin moved to Newport News and worked in the shipyard as a welder during the war. Following the war, he returned to Wakefield to open his own car repair business. He was well-known as an expert car body repairman. He married Ruby West and they had one son, Franklin, Jr. Franklin was a brother to Gaynelle Whitmore, Vernon Lowe, Violet Smith and Alvin Lowe (Viola's husband). As his health failed, he was forced to close his business, and was unable to regularly attend church. Franklin is buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery next to his wife Ruby.
