LOVELL Claremont - March 23 - Funeral services for Walter J. Lovell, who died Saturday, March 20th, at 3 a.m. were conducted Sunday afternoon at three o'clock at the residence. Rev. Charles E. Stewart of Emporia, officiated. Masonic rites were conducted at the grave. Interment in Claremont Cemetery. Mr. Lovell, age 69 years, was born December 19, 1874, in Independence, Iowa but had made his home here for the past 50 years. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 177, Secretary and Treasurer of the Claremont Water Works, at one time a member of the Town School Board, and for 20 years represented the Standard Oil Company, of New Jersey, in this locality. In his early life here he was associated with his father in the mercantile business, later owning and operating a livery stable. As a devoted husband and father, with a friendly word to old and young alike, he will be greatly missed, and the community grieves with the bereaved family. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lora Stone Lovell; one daughter, Mrs. Rachel Lovell Harrison, and one grandson, Lovell Harrison, all of Claremont; two sisters, Mrs. F.D. Sharp of Ashland, and Mrs. John Gayer, of Claremont; two brothers, F.T. Loveland, of Portsmouth and E.W. Lovell, of Claremont; also a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were W.J. Michaux, H.V. Winston, Roland Carter, J.M. Spraque, A.K. Thornton and L.L. Mills. Those from a distance attending the funeral services of the late Walter J. Lovell on Sunday were Mrs. Curtis Lyons of Petersburg; Mrs. Benn Woody, Miss Louise Marable, Mrs. Mildred Harvey, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Arnold of Richmond; F.D. Sharp of Ashland; Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Jordan, Petersburg; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Pitman of Wakefield; Harold Blank, Petersburg, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Rosenkraus, Waynesboro; Mr. and Mrs. Porter Wiedman, Mrs. Ruth Turner, Carl Miller, Newport News; F.T. Lovell, Portsmouth; Mrs. Jack Rollins and family of near Richmond; Roland Carter, Hampton; Mrs. Carl Dunlop, Sandston; Gordon Berryman, C.G. Rowell and Madison Berryman, Surry; Mr. and Mrs. Waverly Burrow and daughter Miss Marie of Burrowsville; Miss Daisy Lee Clements, of Savedge; Mrs. Charles E.
