Andrews of Surry County, with special assistance from State Police Investigator Berryman of thw Fifth District out of Norfolk, is seeking three Negro men in connection with an armed robbery and murder at Bacon's Castle last Wednesday afternoon. According to Sheriff Andrews, three men held up Pete's Place at Bacon's Castle between 2:45 and 3 p.m. on Nov. 18, and escaped with a large sum of money after shooting Herbert (Dee) Logan. Three shots were fired, two of them striking Logan, who was fatally injured. In connection with this armed robbery and another incident which took place Monday, Nov. 16, at the residence of M.H. Misenheimer on Route 10, about a mile from Spring Grove, the Surry County Board of Supervisors is offering rewards. The Board voted at its meeting last week to offer a $500. reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in each of the robberies. According to Sheriff Andrews, two white men asked at the Misenheimer residence for assistance, pushed their way into the house, and robbed Mr. Misenheimer of about $100. A pistol was also taken from the residence, Andrews said. ****************************************************************************** H. M. Logan Herbert Marion "Dee" Logan, 72, died Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 18, of gunshot wounds, following an armed robbery at Pete's Place in Bacon's Castle, where he was employed. A native of Surry County, he was the husband of Mrs. Susie McEnerney Logan and the son of the late John and Mrs. Roedell Nunnally Logan. He was a member of the Bacon's Castle Baptist Church, secretary of the Men's Bible Class and served with the U.S. Army during World War II. Besides his wife he is survived by two stepdaughters, Mrs. George T. Cofer, Smithfield, and Mrs. William R. Kitchen, Colonial Heights; three stepsons, J.W. McEnerney, Newport News, Ernest McEnerney, Harrisonburg, and Clyde W. McEnerney, Newport News; one sister, Mrs. Ethel Thweatt, Richmond, and one brother, C.P. Logan, Surry; also step-grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Friday, Nov. 20, at 2 p.m. in the Mill Swamp Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. Andrew Moon, pastor of the Bacon's Castle Baptist Church. Services were directed by Colonial Funeral Home, Smithfield. Pallbearers were Parke H. Cox, James Robert Goodrich, Robert Pittman, Craig Richmond, Jesse Warren, Lloyd Price, John Brock and William H. Epps.
