LANE DIES AT HOME TUESDAY NIGHT DENDRON, VA. - Mar. 27 - Mr. Fenton Smith Lane, aged 58 years, one of the most widely known business men of Surry County died at 10 o'clock last night at his home at Moorings from pneumonia. Mr. Lane had been in ill health for slightly over three years, having in the winter of 1926 suffered a slight stroke of paralysis. From this he seemingly recovered and his health greatly improved until about a year ago, when he was taken quite ill again and was confined to his room practically all the time. Pneumonia developed a few days ago and the end came at ten o'clock last night. Mr. Lane was for a number of years agent for the Surry, Sussex and Southampton Railroad at Moorings and also postmaster at this place until 1920. He also for 33 years conducted a large mercantile business at Moorings. He also for a number of years was a large peanut buyer and was considered one of the best business men of Surry, County. On November 28, 1903, Mr. Lane was happily married to Miss Susie Stallings, of Isle of Wight County, by whom he is survived. He is also survived by one daughter, Miss Carey Estelle Lane; three nephews, Messrs. J. Winston Fuqua, of Surry, James Smith and Ernest T. Lane, of near Elberon; three nieces, Miss Virginia Fuqua, of Surry, Mrs. J.L. White of Elberon and Mrs. Jack Whitmore, of Dinwiddie County. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Willie Figg Lane, of Elberon, and one sister, Mrs. J.W. Fuqua, of Surry. The deceased was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Smith Lane, of Surry. County. Mr. Lane has been a member of the M.E. Church, South, for over 44 years and at the time of his death was a faithful member of the Surry Methodist Church. The funeral services were held on Thursday morning at 11 o'clock by the Rev. A.W. Linthieum, pastor of the Surry Methodist Church, assisted by Rev. C.H. Williams, of Boykins. Interment was in Ivy Hill Cemetery, at Smithfield. The choirs from the Surry and Elberon churches led by Mr. Perry Gwaltney West, sang, "Sometime We'll Understand," "Sleep on Beloved," and "Abide With Me." Active pallbearers were J. Winston Fuqua, J. Barham, Jr., Gordon C. Berryman, Oscar Eley, W.L. Avery, C.J. Green, Dr. W.W. Seward, P.C. Cox, J.B. Tynes, J.W. Holleman, A.R. Morris, F.O. Lane, H.L. Spartley, N.H. Savedge, Willie Cox, J.W.
