Moody, 85, a lifelong resident of Surry County, died Saturday afternoon at 5:15 o'clock. She is survived by a son, B.A. Moody, of Bacons Castle, a daughter, Mrs. Wallace Gwaltney, of Smithfield, four grandchildren, John A. Moody, of Bacons Castle, Mrs. W.D. Martin, of Philadelphia, Mrs. W.W. Goodman, of Norfolk, and Mrs. John F. Wynne, of Drewryville, two great- grandchildren, Dabney Martin and Elsie Jac Goodman. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the grave in Lawn [sic*] Creek Cemetery, near Bacons Castle. The Rev. J.A. Cales officiated. The funeral procession left the Johnson & Roberts Funeral Home, Smithfield, at 2:30 o'clock. Active pallbearers weer [sic] Robert D. Goodrich, James Eppes, Ned P. Eppes, Clyde Cofer, Jesse Bell and John Carroll. Ellen (CARROLL; Mrs. James William) MOODY, b. 27 Jul 1855, Surry Co., d. 31 May 1941, Surry Co., interred in Lawnes Creek Cemetery*, near Bacons Castle, 22 May 1941, "The Smithfield (VA) Times," Vol. 23, No. 10, June 5, 1941 *Additional information: The Lawnes Creek Parish Church Cemetery, Hog Island, seems only to hold early Colonial burials. It seems most likely she was buried in the Old Brick Church Cemetery, Bacons Castle, where her son Blanks Adams MOODY was interred (D.Cert. #66-014985). Name &c. from D.Cert. (#13599 {Cobham #9}).
