JAMES ROBERT "ROBBIE" MATTHEWS 

         J.R. Mathews [sic; Matthews] 

  The body of J.R. Mathews, 59, who died at St. Elizabeth's Hospital yesterday 
morning at 5:15 o'clock, will be taken to Dendron tomorrow morning for burial. 
He is survived by his wife and eight daughters, his father, J.N. Mathews, 
of Surry County; four* brothers, A.J., P.E. and F.R. Mathews, of Richmond, and 
five sisters, Miss Eva Mathews, of Richmond, Mrs. A.L. Livesey, Newport News; 
Mrs. W.E. Mathews [sic; Matthews], Surry Co., and Mrs. A.S. Higgins, of 
Dendron.

His parents, James Nathaniel & Louisa Madeline (LAINE) MATTHEWS, 
   are buried in Old Cypress Church Cemetery, Dendron, Surry Co. 

His father (1844 - 1926) was a Confederate veteran, having served as a 
   private in the Surry Light Artillery.  The regimental history gives 
   buried Old Church Farm, off Rt. 31, near Dendron.
