MARTHA MAYNARD NEWPORT NEWS - Mrs. Martha Barham Maynard, 86, died in Riverside Hospital Monday after an illness of two weeks. A native of Surry County, she lived here 27 years. She was a daughter of Joseph H. and Mrs. Ann Davis Bell Maynard [sic; Barham*] and the widow of J. Crawley Maynard. She was a member of Rocky Hock Methodist Church. Surviving are two sons, Joseph F. Maynard of Portsmouth and Lawrence C. Maynard of Newport News; five daughter, Mrs. C. Eldon Fulgham of Windsor, Mrs. H.L. Goodrich Sr., of Wakefield, Mrs. Cecil W. Gwaltney Sr. of Smithfield, Mrs. Joseph C. Gwaltney Jr., of Waverly, and Mrs. Sarah M. Howell of Yorktown; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held today at 2 p.m. in Purviance Funeral Chapel, Wakefield, by the Rev. Edward B. Owen. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery, Surry County.
