MORRIS DIES AT DENDRON HOME Long a Leader in Business and Politics in Surry County Adolphus Robert Morris, 73, well known in Surry County where he was born and spent his entire life died at his home in Dendron Friday Dec. 22nd. [sic*] Mr. Morris was one of the largest merchants and peanut buyers in the county until his retirement from active business a few years ago, and carried on his farming, fertilizer and banking interests to the time of his death. He was a leading Democrat, having served as chairmen of the county Democratic committee. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Emma Edwards Morris, and two daughters, Mrs. L.M. Haynie of New Orleans, La., and Mrs. P.W. Spratley of Hampton. Three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Pattie Dearing and Miss Laura Morris of Norfolk, and Mrs. H.B. Wells of Virginia Beach, and a brother, Richard Morris, a member of the firm of Morris & Clayton, Petersburg, also survive. Funeral services were held in Oakwood cemetery, Surry, Sunday afternoon, Dec. 23rd.
