He was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Eugene O'Neal, and is survived by his brother, Tom O'Neal; sister, Hilda Clarke; nephews, Kevin Clarke, Greg Clarke, and Eric O'Neal; niece, Pamela O'Neal; and great-nephew, Collin O'Neal. Edwin was agreeable, appreciative, caring and kind. He was loyal to family and friends and was generous and helpful as needed to everyone he met. He worked for years in insurance claims in Richmond, Va. but most enjoyed the time he worked in the café at Longwood University in Farmville, Va. He was fondly known as "Ed, the Coffee Guy" and was honored to receive a Chi commendation from one of the secret societies on campus. In retirement he pursued his love of history and old homes as a member of the Amelia, Surry, and Dendron historical societies. He had given tours at Smith’s Fort, Rogers Store, Haw Branch, and Poplar Forest. He was prolific poet and story teller whose wit and soothing voice will be missed. As he wished, Edwin's ashes will be placed privately in the O'Neal plot at Grub Hill Cemetery in Amelia. Celebration of Life services will be held in Amelia and Surry on dates to be announced later. Donations may be made to the Dr. James T. O'Neal scholarship fund, c/o Martha O'Neal Muniz in Amelia, Va., to any of the above historical societies, or to any charity you hold dear.
