She was born on Nov. 7, 1907 in Surry County, the daughter of the late Walter Jackson Pond and the late Sallie Quarles Moyler Pond of "Oakview", Surry County. She was predeceased by brothers, Walter Moyler Pond and Robert Moyler Pond; a sister Lucile Moyler Pond Munford; and a niece Anne Moyler Munford Ashworth. She was a graduate of Fredericksburg State Teachers College, now known as Mary Washington College, and retired after teaching in the Colonial Heights School system for 38 years. She was a member of the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, Surry County, a member of the Frances Bland Randolph Chapter, Daughters of American Revolution, past regent and registrar of the Fort Henry Chapter of the American Colonist and a member of the Thomas Rolfe Branch of the Association of the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities. She is survived by her devoted confident and friend, Luther Ray Ashworth, a nephew, Robert Moyler Pond, Jr. of Surry County, a niece Dianna Pond Rule Coggin of Virginia Beach, five great nieces, Sallie Quarles Ashworth Curl Medlin of Surry County, Anne Munford Ashworth of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Rebecca Pond, Bonnie Carolyn Pond of Surry County and Gretchen Paige Rule of Virginia Beach, three great nephews, George Munford Ashworth of Richmond, Edward Moyler Pond of Surry County and Robert Charles Rule of Virginia Beach, four great-great nieces Melissa Anne Curl, Angela Lynn Curl, Jennifer Brook Curl of Surry County, Berkley Dianne Ashworth of Richmond and two great, great nephews, Luther Ray Ashworth II and John Reid Ashworth of Richmond; sister-in-law, Margaret Pond of Wakefield. A funeral service was held by the Rev. Dr. James M. Becker at Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, Surry County on April 29, at 11 a.m. Burial was in the church cemetery. A reception for the family and friends followed in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield handled arrangements.
