John Hawkins Pond first married Sarah F. Vick from Southampton County. They had no children. They were married only a few years when she died. He then married her sister, Elizabeth Eleanor Vick Davis, a widow who had lost her husband after only a few years of marriage and one child. John Hawkins Pond and Elizabeth had six children. Only two of those children stayed in the area and farmed part of Oakview Plantation. They were John Wesley Pond, the father of Lyle Pond and grandfather of Al, Susan, and David Pond, and Walter Jackson Pond, father of Rob Pond, and grandfather of Moyler and Dianne Pond. Oakview Plantation consisted of about 2,200 acres (refer to Rocky Hock Church bulletin JRA #22, September 1, 2002). When Rocky Hock Church was remodeled in 1876, some of the original church building was reused in a barn of Oakview. John and Elizabeth are both buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. At this time, there are no known pictures that exist of John and Elizabeth Pond. Thanks to Al Pond and Moyler Pond, great grandsons, of John and Elizabeth Pond, for this information.
