He attended Virginia Tech and, upon his graduation, returned home to farm with his father, Walter Jackson Pond, and his brother, Walter. After meeting and marrying his wife, Margaret, they moved to an adjoining farm where he continued to till the soil. Rob was a quiet, soft-spoken man, but was a stable and a very visibly active supporter of Rocky Hock Church. He served as Sunday school superintendent for 41 years. He also taught a Sunday school class for boys, served as church treasurer, and was chairman of the Board of Stewards. Rob was known to have said, "I grew up to be a lover of the church." Next to the church, family was a very important part of his life. He enjoyed warmly welcoming family and friends into his home as well as visiting them. He would always greet friends with a smile, a few kind words, and a hardy handshake. At home with his wife and two children, Moyler and Dianne, he read the Upper Room each day at meal time and he read the Bible each night with his wife, Margaret, before going to bed. Rob was active in his community as well and was a charter member of the Wakefield Ruritan Club since its formation in 1929. He was a member of the club for over 60 years and was a past president of the club. He, as well as many other former and present members of the Rocky Hock Church family, have set and are setting fine examples of living the Christian life. Let us follow Christ and those who have allowed Him to live in them. Thanks to Moyler and Brenda Pond for the information and picture.
