She was a Wythe resident for 66 years. She was the only child of Bertha and Clarence Stallings and was raised on the "Old Church Farm" near Elberon in Surry County. Mrs. Perry was graduate of Dendron High School and Averett College in Danville where she was on the basketball team and a member of the Delta Psi Omega honor fraternity for men and women. In later years, she was president of the Averett College local Alumnae Association. She furthered her education at the College of William & Mary and was on the field hockey team. In 1940 she joined First Baptist Church of Newport News where she was an active and dedicated member. She was selected as a Life Deacon, was a member of the Keystone & Joy Sunday School Classes and active in missions of the church. She served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union and was a long time Girls Auxiliary and Young Women’s Association leader. She helped organize the church library and was the librarian for over 30 years, thus honored by the church as Church Librarian Emeritus. She was also a charter member of the Swingin Singers Senior choir and the XYZ Club. She was married to the late Hallet "Buck" Parker Perry for 42 years. She is survived by her two sons, Hallett "Hal" P. Perry, Jr. of Hampton and Ronald "Ron" A. Perry and his wife, Diane of Newport News and her two grandchildren, Parker A. Perry of Orlando, Fla. and Delaine P. Kaplan of Charlottesville. Vistation will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 10, 2006 at First Baptist Church at the church library. Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the church sanctuary with burial to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park. The family would like to thank the staff and friends at Northampton Convalesent Center for their love and car during the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be sent to the First Baptist Church Library of Building Fund, 12716 Warwick Blvd., NN, VA 23606. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
