A tragic accident on Route 460 about two miles east of Wakefield took the life of Howard Henley Presson, Jr., 36, of Wakefield Wednesday morning at 7:05. Presson was on his tractor pulling a peanut picker when he was struck from behind by a loaded tractor-trailer truck. Investigating State Trooper D.G. Russell said Presson was thrown from the tractor seat and died instantly. The impact flung the vehicles involved approximately 150 feet off the road. John Jessie Smith, 48, of South Norfolk, driver of the truck was not injured other than by a scratch on the head. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter and will be given a hearing in Sussex County Court this month. Presson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Peggy Roach Presson, of Wakefield.
