Rogers, whose earthy remains were laid to rest Sunday afternoon in Rocky Hock cemetery, services being conducted by his pastor, Rev. W.L. Ware, and were most touching and left a profound impression in the minds of an unusual large congregation. The choir rendered two of his favorite hymns: "Jesus Lover of my Soul" and "Sweet Bye and Bye." He leaves to mourn their loss a loved and devoted wife, six little children, an aged mother, a brother, two sisters and a large circle of relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed in the Sunday school, Church and community. He was ever faithful in bringing his little children to Sunday school to teach them about Jesus and his love. He was in his fiftieth year and died at the old homestead two miles east of Wakefield Saturday 12:30 a.m., December 18, 1915. Brother Rogers had had much to live for but God knew best and called him home to be with Him. Our sympathies are extended to the grief stricken wife and family, and we pray for a united family above. My Loved ones are gathering yonder My friends too, are passing that way And soon I shall join their bright member, And dwell in eternity’s day. Their trials and battles are past, They overcome sin and the templer They have reached the fair city at last. A friend. ****************************************************************************** IN MEMORY OF GEORGE WASHINGTON AND IDA MAE GOODRICH ROGERS This is the fifth in a series about the people named in the stained glass windows at ROCKY HOCK METHODIST CHURCH George W. Rogers farmed all of his life. His home was where Jerry Rogers and his mother, Mary Elizabeth Rogers, live today. George was a faithful member of Rocky Hock Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. His grandson, Larry Rogers, possesses a plate given to his grandfather at the turn of the century for his many faithful years to the church. George and his wife, Ida Mae Bailey Rogers, had six children, three boys - Ben, Oliver and Clarence, and three girls - May, Bena and Hattie. So the story goes, George was on his way home from town (Wakefield) one day when he fell out of the wagon. This happened near Charlie Murphy's driveway (near Randolph Murphy's home). During the night, George Rogers died from a heart attack or a stroke. The farm where Larry Rogers lives today and the farm next to it where Mary and Bena lived for many years belonged to Larry's grandmother, Ida Mae, who inherited the farm from her mother, Ansebelia Bailey Goodrich. George and Ida Mae Rogers are both buried in Rocky Hock Cemetery. Thanks to Larry Rogers for the pictures and the information for the article.
