Oliver Rogers, 78, died Saturday at Southampton Memorial Hospital, Franklin. He was a lifelong Surry County resident. He retired as a Surry County farmer. He won several farming awards. In 1966 he was the Champion Peanut Producer in Surry County and was third in the State. The award was given by the Association of Virginia Peanut and Hog Growers. In 1967 he won the Goodyear Soil Conservation Award and the Virginia Peanut, Soil and Water Conservation District Soil Conservation Award. He was a member of the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church, Surry County, and a member of the administration board of the church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Pittman Rogers; three sons, Ernest Oliver Rogers of Great Falls, Thomas David Rogers of Richmond and Jerry Lynn Rogers of Wakefield; one sister, Mary R. Bailey of Norfolk; and one brother, George Benjamin Rogers of Wakefield. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Purviance Funeral Home by the Rev. E. Lee Chattin. Burial will be in Rocky Hock United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, Rt. 1, Box 91. The family request that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to the Rocky Hock United Methodist Church cemetery fund or the Ivor Rescue Squad. ****************************************************************************** SAMUEL OLIVER ROGERS S. Rogers, Great Falls, Thomas D. Rogers, Richmond, and Jerry L. Rogers, Wakefield; a brother, G. Ben Rogers, Wakefield, a sister, Mary R. Bailey of Norfolk. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 1987, in Purviance Funeral Home, Wakefield. Burial will be in Rocky Hock Church Cemetery. He was a member of Rocky Hock United Methodist Church and its administrative board and of the Farmer's Hunt Club. Mr. Rogers was a retired farmer. In 1966, he received the Top Peanut Producer Award from the Virginia Peanut and Hog Association. He was the third place producer in the state in 1966. In 1967 he received the Goodyear Soil Conservation Award and the Commonwealth of Virginia Peanut, Soil & Water Conservation District Soil Conservation Award. Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Pittman Rogers; three sons, Ernest Oliver Rogers of Great Falls, Thomas David Rogers of Richmond and Jerry Lynn Rogers of Wakefield; one sister, Mary R.
