              W.S. SAVEDGE

     (Special Dispatch to The Times) 

  DENDRON, VA., Feb. 19. - The remains of Mr. W.S. Savedge, who died on the 
17th at 8 a.m. were interred in the family burying-ground today at 2 o’clock. 
Mr. Savedge was sixty-four years old, having passed through the War Between 
the States in the Surry Cavalry.  He also served as sheriff.  He leaves a 
widow, son, three sisters and a brother.


Winfield Scott SAVEDGE, farmer, former sheriff of Surry Co., 
Confederate veteran, 
b. Dec 1837, Surry Co., d. 17 Feb 1902, 
interred in the family cemetery, Surry Co., 19 Feb 1902, 
"The Times" (Richmond, VA), Feb. 20, 1902, p. 2 

An obit also appeared in "The Daily Press," Feb. 21, 1902.

His name was often spelled Wingfield. 

He m. widow Martha S. (POND) LANE, d/o John N. & Martha POND, 
   12 Apr 1866 in Surry Co. 

Her D.Cert. 19143 (Blackwater #7) gives b. 25 Jan 1840 Surry Co., 
   d/o John POND, d. 9 Jul 1923, bu. 10 Jul 1923 in Surry Co. 

The Surry Cavalry was designated Co. G, 13th Va. Cavalry, CSA.
