SAVEDGE (Special Dispatch to The Times) DENDRON, VA., Feb. 19. - The remains of Mr. W.S. Savedge, who died on the 17th at 8 a.m. were interred in the family burying-ground today at 2 o’clock. Mr. Savedge was sixty-four years old, having passed through the War Between the States in the Surry Cavalry. He also served as sheriff. He leaves a widow, son, three sisters and a brother. Dec 1837, Surry Co., d. 17 Feb 1902, interred in the family cemetery, Surry Co., 19 Feb 1902, "The Times" (Richmond, VA), Feb. 20, 1902, p. 2 An obit also appeared in "The Daily Press," Feb. 21, 1902. *Find a Grave Mem. #128032401 His name was often spelled Wingfield. He m. widow Martha S. (POND) LANE, d/o John N. & Martha POND, 12 Apr 1866 in Surry Co. Her D.Cert. 19143 (Blackwater #7) gives b. 25 Jan 1840 Surry Co., d/o John POND, d. 9 Jul 1923, bu. 10 Jul 1923 in Surry Co. The Surry Cavalry was designated Co. G, 13th Va. Cavalry, CSA.
