GARLAND WILLIAM SPRATLEY 

  Mr. Spratley was a lifelong resident of Dendron, VA.  The son of Robert 
Spratley, he served as postmaster of the Dendron Post Office from 1932-1964. 
His other work included positions with the Bank of Dendron, the Sussex, Surry 
and Southampton Railroad, the WPA, and Sussex and Surry County governments.

  He was a member of Dendron United Church of Christ and served on its board 
of deacons and as church treasurer for 50 years.

  He was married to Jennie Louise (Barrett) in 1916, who survives, and was 
the father of Jennie (Spratley) Nicholson and Louis (Spratley) Donald.  Also 
surviving was a sister, Mae (Spratley) Pursell, 4 grandchildren, and one 
great-grandchild.
