HARRY WRENN SPRATLEY, JR. 

RITES ARE HELD AT SURRY FOR HARRY SPRATLEY, JR. 

  Harry Wrenn Spratley, Jr., 22, of Dendron, was killed Saturday in a traffic 
accident.  He was a native of Surry County, a graduate of Surry High School, 
a member of Dendron Christian Church, and at the time of his death was a naval 
airman second class stationed at Norfolk.  He had served in the Navy for three 
and one-half years, and had returned home two weeks ago, after serving a rout 
of duty of six months on Malta.

  Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Paulette Kitchen Spratley, a nurse at Stuart 
Circle Hospital, Richmond, formerly of Wakefield; his parents Mr. and Mrs. 
Harry W. Spratley, of Dendron, and a brother, John Barrett Spratley, of 
Dendron.

  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, October 27, at 4 p.m. at the 
graveside in Oakwood Cemetery in Surry, with Rev. Fred Wright and Rev. D.M. 
Cotter officiating.  At the services honor guards from the U.S. Navy 
Department presented a flag to his brother, John Barrett Spratley to be given 
to his surviving wife.

  Pallbearers were William C. Tennis, Melvin Everett, William E. Harwood, Gene 
J. Sowder, Julian D. Lewis, Martin Burton, James E. Savedge, Bobby Gwaltney 
and Dennis J. Longar.
