Spratley, in this city, this evening. He was a native of Sussex [sic*] County and had been in Petersburg visiting his relatives only four days. His remains will be shipped to Dendron for interment. He is survived by four sisters and one brother, Mrs. R.J. and Mrs. W.D. Spratley, of Petersburg: Mrs. J.T. Deal, of Norfolk, and Mrs. T.D. Parker and John Spratley, of Dendron. (Ancestry.com "Virginia, Select Marriages," citing p. 19 #40) D.Cert. #5459 (Petersburg #146) gives b. 4 Jan 1856, Surry Co., sn/o Stith {mis-read Seth} & Urania Spratley. His wife Alla Cornelia (HOLLOWAY) SPRATLEY {1858-1940} was the daughter of Richard A. HOLLOWAY {1840-1881}, postmaster at Holloway's Store, in Surry Co. He is buried in Moore's Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery, Elberon, Surry Co.
