JOSEPH RUSSELL SMITH 

  Joseph Russell Smith, 51, died August 15, at a Richmond hospital after a 
brief illness.  A native of Trumbull County, Ohio, he made his home in 
Wakefield and was a member of Rocky Hock Methodist Church, and employed by 
the Virginia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Co.  He was the son of the late 
Virgil B. Smith and Mrs. Clida Lazensby Smith of North Bloomfield, Ohio.

  Besides his mother, he is survived by his wife, Violet Lowe Smith of 
Wakefield; a son Carl Russell Smith of Wakefield; a daughter Penny Sue Smith 
of Wakefield; and three sisters; Mrs. T.M. Durst of Warren, Ohio, Mrs. Betty 
S. Kohley of Warren, Ohio, and Mrs. Paul Zarick of North Bloomfield, Ohio.

  The funeral services were at Purviance Funeral Chapel, Saturday, Aug. 17, 
at 4:00 p.m.  The burial was at Rocky Hock Cemetery with the Rev. Roy C. 
Vernon and the Rev. L.P. Bland officiating.

  Pallbearers were: Earl Holt, C.L. Goodrich, S.L. Vassar, C.M. Ellis, Jr., 
Lyle H. Pond, J.C. Whitmore, Jr., Stanley Brantley, and E. Carlton Goodrich.
