Seward, Drowned in Surry; Buried Sept. 27 Jack Eugene Seward, 22, who was drowned Thursday, September 24th, in the Blackwater river in Surry County after he fell from a boat while fishing, was buried Saturday, September 25th. [sic] Funeral services were conducted at 3:30 P.M. in Moore's Swamp Church Cemetery by the Rev. F.B. Fitzgerald, pastor. Seward apparently fell overboard about 7 A.M. Thursday morning. A companion said he did not come to the surface at all. His body was recovered about 10 A.M. Thursday. He was a native of Hampton, but was living in Surry at the time of his death and a member of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. Garland Seward Sr. of Hampton; two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Seward Faison of Dendron and Mrs. Betty Seward Holdsworth of Smithfield, and a brother, E. Garland Seward Jr. of Hampton.
