THACKER'S FUNERAL TODAY James Allen Thacker, Sr., 76 years, resident of Surry County, died Tuesday night at his home near Moonlight from heart trouble. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Annie Jones Thacker and five boys*: H.M. Thacker, J.B. Thacker, Jr., J.A. Thacker, Jr., C.H. Thacker, L.C. Thacker and one daughter, Mrs. J.R. Palmore of Petersburg, and nineteen grandchildren - James Thacker, Lee Thacker, Racheal Thacker, Ralph Thacker, Florene Thacker, Crouch Thacker, Fletcher Thacker, Helen Thacker, Bettie Audrey Scott Thacker, Dorothy Thacker, Herman Thacker, Girly Mae Thacker, Nancy Ray Thacker, Leslie Wade Thacker, Raymond Thacker, Shelton Lane Thacker, Viola Palmore and James Palmore, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted at the home at 2:30 Thursday afternoon. A. THACKER, SR. Mr. J.A. Thacker, Sr., age 76, a prominent resident of Surry County died at his home Tuesday night, October 20th, following an illness of heart trouble. Mr. Thacker has always lived in Surry County. He was a member of Bacon's Castle Baptist Church, a successful farmer and a good neighbor. Deep regret is felt throughout this section where he was well known. He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. James Pallmore [sic; Palmore] of Petersburg and five sons: Messrs. H.M. Thacker, J.B. Thacker, J.A. Thacker, Jr., C.H. Thacker and L.C. Thacker, all of Smithfield, and nineteen grandchildren. Funeral services were held at home at 2:30 o'clock Thursday afternoon by the Rev. T.W. Page of Bacon's Castle, assisted bv Rev. E.W. Sommerville. Active pallbearers were: Messrs. Johnny Jones, Willie Thacker, Floyd Eppes, Fenton Jones, Wallace Goodrich and Bob Eppes. Honorary: Messrs. George Washington, Lee Epps, James Dashiells, Sr., George Phillips, J.B. Davis, I.H. Gwaltney, R.A. Gwaltney, J.L. Gwaltney, Ernest Baker, Tazewell Batten, Caleb Batten, Taylor Batten, M.L. Gwaltney, Willard Dashields, B.O. Thomas, M.R. Jones, Wiley Jones, Jesse Bell, Junius Pittman and Joe Jones. Interment was in the Old Brick Church Cemetery at Bacon's Castle.
