TENCH DIES IN DENDRON DENDRON - Funeral services for Allie J. Tench, age 77, who died Monday at 11:40 p.m., were held on Wednesday afternoon. Burial was made at Moore’s Swamp Baptist Church in the family plot. Dr. A.W.H. Jones conducted the funeral service, assisted by Rev. J.S. Johnson. Mr. Tench was born in Prince George County, coming to Surry County forty years ago, living most of that time in Dendron, where he was employed in the machine shop of Surry Lumber Company, later engaging in the mercantile business. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hildred Rives Seward Tench; four daughters, Mrs. John Adams of Blackstone; Mrs. Richard Messick, of Norfolk; Mrs. Philip Whitmore of Newport News, and Miss Susie Tench of Dendron, and six grandchildren. Active pallbearers were: B.A. Seward, C.G. Seward, A.L. Seward, George L. Savedge, Jr., J.H. James, P.L. Hancock, Honorary: R.E. Faison, E.L. Hart, C.C. Hart, A.N. Jordan, W.S. Savedge, E.T. Atkinson.
