Tynes Sr. Buried Sunday At Moore's Swamp Thomas Ward Tynes, Sr., 62, died at his home in Surry County Friday after a long illness. A lifelong resident of Surry, he was a prominent merchant and farmer, having operated the Elberon Supply Company for 30 years. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class there. A son of the late S.O. and Mary Brock Tynes, he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mattie Edwards Tynes; one son, T.W. Tynes Jr.; one daughter, Miss Anne Elizabeth Tynes, all of Elberon; four brothers, John S. Tynes, Petersburg, J.W. and L.L. Tynes, both of Elberon, Burnice B. Tynes, Richmond; three sisters, Mrs. William Bell and Miss Mary Tynes, both of Elberon, and Mrs. P.C. Nall of Washington. The funeral procession left the home Sunday at 2:45 P.M. for services at the grave in Moore's Swamp Cemetery at [blank] P.M. by the Rev. L.E. Holzbach, pastor of Mill Swamp Baptist Church, assisted by the Rev. N.C. Clifton, pastor of Moore's Swamp Baptist Church. Pallbearers were W.H. Cox, H.W. Spratley, W.D. Gwaltney, G.L. Savedge Jr., Garland Seward, Wilson Seward, James Ford and G.L. Munford. Friends of the family were honorary pallbearers.
