He died at the home of his daughter, Margaret Pond (Moyler Pond's mother), after a long illness. Ara Hitchens Thorpe (1880 - 1953) was a native of Elkton, Maryland, but spent most of her life in Williamsburg. She is buried in Cedar Grove Cemetery next to her husband, Oscar. Her funeral was at Williamsburg Methodist Church. Oscar and Ara were the grandparents of Moyler Pond. Thanks to Gayle Lanier for the information. The transcript of an affadavit by Silas, supporting the loyalty claim of Nathaniel CARTER, 22 May 1873, is posted with Find a Grave Memorial #65250038. Silas, then a farmer in Fauquier Co., had been a Federal veteran, serving in 13th NY Cavalry & the 8th IL Cavalry.
